the perserverence
of his demons

not the demons of his dreams
but the demons of his heart
the demons of his mind

start with abandonment
progress to enslavement
chart a course
through misery
and fear

feeling trapped in this lifetime
imprisoned in such inviting
circumstances
just like you

despite ponderous years his anger is impotent
potential explosions unfulfilled
while life passes
before his
eyes

desperation leads to insanity
insanity leads him back
i take him by the hand
and show him a place
still and quiet
inside

everyone who lives or dies knows this place
like the peace found after lovemaking
arriving together in the dark
we move backwards
